This is the interior of my current DD. It's a 2008 MDX.

Kinja'd!!!

The other day for some reason, it struck me that there are a boatload of buttons in this thing. 52 in the centre console (including the rockers for the heated seats) alone.

Fifty. Two.

Add in the buttons on the steering wheel and you get up to 62. Include the buttons on the driver's side of the dash and we're up to 69.

Sixty Nine Buttons.

There's a row, and four columns of buttons for climate control. The radio/cd player requires two rows of buttons - which are made redundant by the big dial in the navigation section at the bottom. There's a separate row of buttons (and separate loading slot) for the DVD player. The nav system has a large dial/button/joystick combo thing and seven of its own buttons.

I've long railed against touch-screens. I do still think that they lack the feedback and intuitive-ness of a well-thought-out, well-planned, and well-designed system of buttons and dials. However, in the face of this complete and utter disaster of a layout, I'd take a touch screen any day.

I'm pretty sure Acura designers have a button fetish.

And I thought the previous generation had a crap ton of buttons.

I just counted the amount of buttons in my car. 56. That's the entire dash, including the driver's side adjustments, not including knobs and counting dual function buttons as only one.

I think it looks like a lot based off how compact they made them. I don't think they did all that bad, as I'm sure your MDX can do a helluva lot more than my Volvo.

But you have that cool gear shift. That's awesome.

Part of the issue is a) the redundancy or unneeded-ness (nice word eh?) of some of the buttons, and b) the complete and utter lack of intuition in the layout. I've been driving this vehicle for a while now and the layout of the buttons is completely and utterly unintuitive. You can't do anything by feel. You have to take your eyes off the road to see what tiny little button you're trying to push.

Our new Odyssey has, like 3 buttons.

And 500 more buttons among over 13,000 needless sub-menus on the touchscreen. It's like Honda in 2014 just said "fuck it! All screens now."

I'm pretty sure it has 70 buttons, not 69. There is one button you probably missed. And it's the biggest one.

Honk honk.

How intuitive is it? How well do things fall to the finger? Do you have to distract yourself by doing a lot of searching?
